Sony has announced a new portable DVD player - the D-VE7000S - breaking away from the company's focus on the UMD format found in the PSP. The video walkman will play DVD and CD discs, including recordables and rewriteables and the newly announced DVD+RW dual-layer format.
![]() Sony's D-VE7000S DVD Walkman Barely larger than a standard DVD's carrying case, the tablet styled unit will come with a 7 inch screen, 180 degree viewing angle and weighs 775g and measures 19.3 x 13.6 x 3.3cm. Built in 450W speakers will offer playback in Dolby Digital or DTS. Sony is promising a battery life of around 3 hours with blacklight and a whopping seven hours without. The device features support for a wide variety of burnable disc formats, including DVD, DVD±R/±RW and DVD±R dual layer discs, as well as support for CD, Video CD, CD-R/RW discs. Sony has included a slim-line remote that allows you to control the action from your chair. The company has also announced a slightly larger player called the DVP-FX810 that sports an 8 inch screen and weights slightly heavier at 1025g. No price has been set as yet, although early predictions from local news sites in Japan are suggesting around 35,000 yen (£168). |
