DivX 6.4 Adds Full HD Video Encoding

DivX have released version 6.4 of their software suite that includes new players and codecs offering play-back and encoding of full HD (1,920x1,080 pixel) DivX video files.

The package includes DivX Player 6.4, DivX Codec 6.4 and DivX Web Player 1.2.0.

DivX Player 6.4
The new player offers Full DivX video playback, including purchased or rented DivX movies, a new download manager that allows users to queue, pause and progressively play video downloads.

The Burn to disc function allows burning of multiple DivX videos to CD/DVD from within the player for playback on certified devices.

Lastly, the player supports 5.1 channel MP3 surround sound.

DivX Codec 6.4
The DivX Codec encodes video at resolutions up to high-definition 1920 x 1080. This measn that it offers 1080i and 1080p, at a fraction of the file size.

DivX claims that it offfers a 5 to 10 times more efficient digital video compression, compared to the MPEG-2/DVD format.

Six optimized encoding modes offer balancing visual quality and performance , while an automated noise reduction reduces grain and low-light noise (common with DV cameras) without significantly degrading the video.

DivX Web Player 6.4
The DivX Web Player is a plug-in that allows DivX videos to be played directly within your web browser. It plays all DivX videos, it downloads and installs in seconds (less than 1MB) while it is compatible with nearly every popular web browser. It also supports DivX high definition (HD) video, and allows subtitles for multiple languages.

A free version of the DivX 6.4 software package can be downloaded here. It includes 15-day trials of DivX Converter, DivX Converter MPEG-2/DVD Plug-in, DivX Pro Codec. DivX Player, DivX Web Player as well as the DivX Community Codec are provided for free.

The DivX Pro for Windows is available for $19.99 ($10.60). Users of the Pro version can also include the DivX Converter MPEG-2/DVD Plug-in for additional $9.99 (£5.30). The plug-in allows support for MPG, VOB, TS and SVCD files.
