LG Electronics has unveiled its GGW-H10N dual-standard Blu-ray Disc (BD)/HD DVD optical drive in Taiwan with availability of the device on the island scheduled for early July at a recommended retail price of NT$39,900 (US$1,208, £609).
The GGW-H10N can read and write in the Blu-ray Disc (BD) format while it can only read HD DVD discs. In addition to the two blue-laser standards, the model is also a 12x Super Multi DVD burner supporting conventional DVD+R/-R SL/DL, DVD+RW/-RW, DVD-RAM and CD-R/RW standards. LG Electronic's marketing subsidiary, LG Electronics Taiwan Taipei (LGETT), expects to sell 50-100 of the burners a month in Taiwan.
LG's Dual Format GGW-H10N
LG recently launched its GSA-H55L, a 20x Super Multi (triple-standard) DVD burner model, for sale in Taiwan for NT$1,690, LGETT indicated. The model features two LG-developed technologies, SecureDisc to protect stored information through code encryption and Auto Write Strategy (AWS) that automatically sets the optimal burning speed and detects and bypasses damaged spots on discs, LGETT noted.
This year, LG sets a sales goal of 300,000 optical disc drives of all types for the Taiwan market, LGETT said.
