Ritek maintained their position as the biggest producer of Blu-ray discs outside of Japan, rising to third in the list of manufacturers after Panasonic and Sony.
Ritek, the second largest Taiwan-based producer of blank optical discs, witnessed its shipment volume of blank Bly-ray Disc (BD) discs grow, helping the company rise from a fourth ranking worldwide with a 12.9% market share in the first quarter of 2008 to a third ranking with a 18.0% share in the second quarter, the Chinese-language newspaper Economic Daily News (EDN) cited statistics from Japan-based BOC Info.net as indicating.
Ritek surpassed TDK to become the third largest maker of blank BD discs last quarter, after Matsushita Electric Industrial (Panasonic) and Sony, EDN indicated. In addition, Ritek was the largest maker of blank DVD+R/-R DL (single-sided double-layer) discs in the second quarter, occupying 30.53% of the global shipment volume, EDN noted.
