One of Scotland's biggest DVD pirates is behind bars. Nicknamed Captain Pugwash after the kids' TV character, Ricky Ralston, 49, was caught with 3663 illegal DVDs and CDs in a van. He's been jailed for jailed for 12 months at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
Ralston, of Bellshill, Lanarkshire, pled guilty to the van charge to have the more serious factory charges binned.
Last week, another major pirate was jailed for 22 months at the High Court in Edinburgh. Thomas McCabe, 51, of Glasgow, raked in £1000 an hour selling DVDs and CDs.
One investigator said: "For too long, gangs acted with relative impunity and openly sold fakes across Scotland.
"But we're determined to make life difficult for them. "Every fake cheats honest traders and the taxpayer and in many cases helps fuel other organised crime.
"This is the first time in years that Scotland's pirates are on the run but there is no room for complacency."
