I am continuing comparing burning of media as fast as each drive will allow with the specific media
This next test will compare DATASAFE RICOHJPN 01 4X speed media burnt at 8x speed

From this table we can see the only difference is that the Pioneer will burn at 12x with this patched firmware and it does not have the 6x speed option in the firmware but it actually starts burning at 6x. The NEC cannot be burnt any faster than 8x speed so the comparison is made at this speed

At 8X speed burning both drives use Z-CLV and here the Pioneer has the upper hand starting faster with only one step up to 8x speed from 6x speed whereas the NEC starts at 4x speed with 2 steps up to 8x speed making the Pioneer faster by 1:36 secs

Here you can see the Pioneer is excellent and wins this hands down with a PIE average of 8 against 20 for the NEC and the NEC having an unacceptable increase from the 4gig point. Jitter is about the same for both drives and is well acceptable for both burns

The Pioneer's burn read speed graph is perfect but the NEC has a disappointing sharp drop just after 4 gigs and this is clearly reflected with the sharp rise at this point in the PIE tests With this particular media burning at 8X speed the Pioneer wins hands down with Faster Burning, Better Quality Burn and superior Readability
