Battle of the Burners!!!

Media Quality & Value for Money Spreadsheet

Testing different media is only half the process in deciding the overall quality Calculating the value for money is a long drawn out process analysing the scans and it is not always easy to provide an exact comparison between the different brands.
I decided to design a spreadsheet that would do all the calculations for me and would give an ideal comparison between brands. I now have a working sheet that covers up to 12 different DVD burners.
As there is no fixed standard for media quality I used my experience to decide on the appropriate figures for the quality score and set to and worked out the algorithms to arrive at these results.

This was the basic calculator I designed

By entering the results from DVDInfoPro I am able to get a quality score for each set of figures and calculate the overall quality and then based on the current market prices and the cost of the particular media, the value for money is calculated
If you click on the calculator a full spreadsheet's results will show, and you can download a Working Demo. The calculations are a little different from the final spreadsheet but it gives an idea as to how it works

A major on-line retailer has been evaluating my spreadsheet and is currently using it for their media test results. Their chief Support Technician said "Easy to use with very true results output at the end". 8/10
They were so impressed with it they asked if the calculations could be incorporated into DVDInfoPro? So Nic Wilson & myself have worked together and using my algorithms we have incorporated the calculations into giving a quality rating of the scans produced.

I intend to publish the full spreadsheet & add to it each set of tests for the individual media making it available for all to see at a glance which I consider the best value for money media.
