I burnt several films with this media and tested the playback for compatibility they all played smoothly in my DVD players I burnt this media in the following drives PIONEER DVR-108, PIONEER DVR-107,NEC ND-3500AG, Memorex DVD+/-DLRWL1 F16, BENQ DW1620, LITEON SOHW1633S, TEAC DV-W516G, PLEXTOR PX-712SA

Here are the resultant graphs

PIONEER DVR-108 V1.14 burnt at 8X speed

A burn quality test in my BenQ drive

PI errors start at about 10 reducing to well under 10 until the 4 gig point when these errors rise to a maximum of just under 30.

Jitter remains well under 10 except for the outer edge

PIF is negligible peaking at 10 at the outer edge

Good results all round here

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

This scan shows a near perfect graph. What more can I say?

PIONEER DVR-107 V burnt at 8X speed

A burn quality test in my BenQ drive

PI never rose above 20 with jitter constant averaging just under 10%

PIF again negligible peaking at just over 10

Again we have a good all round result

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

Slight dip around the 3 gig point coinciding with the peaks in the PI/PIF charts but nothing to worry about and playback is not affected

NEC ND-3500AG burnt at 8X speed

Burn quality as tested in the BenQ drive

Excellent PI with a peak of 8 and PIF peaking at 6,

Jitter averaged 9.5 although for some unknown reason the graph was not drawn

They don’t come much better than this

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

This scan shows an almost perfect graph again What more can I say?

MEMOREX DVD+/-DLRWL1 F16 vBWSE burnt at at 8X Speed

Burn quality as tested in the BenQ drive

After a good start the PI errors increased as the burning speed increased and rose to an unacceptable level of over 300 during the latter part of the scan. PIF remained below 10 for the duration of the scan

Jitter started at 10% with a sharp increase at the first burn speed increase slight increase at the second burn speed increase peaking at 13.9% with an average of 11.7%

PI & Jitter are high and unacceptable

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

This scan shows a near perfect graph.

The disc is perfectly readable without errors and although the PI/Jitter tests could have been better the disc played OK without problems

BENQ DW1620 burnt at 8x Speed

Burn quality as tested in the BenQ drive

PI peaking at just over 20 with an average of 5 Jitter starting about 8% raising gradually to a max of 11% averaging 9.1%

PIF errors too few to mention

Another very good result with this drive

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

This scan shows a near perfect graph. and there is nothing more to say

LITEON SOHW1633S burnt at at 8x Speed

Burn quality as tested in the BenQ drive

PI errors Very High starting at about 160 reducing in the middle of the scan but rising again to peak at around 300 at the outer edge

Jitter starts high at nearly 15% remaining above 12% for the entire scan with an average of 13%

PIF is about 5 at the beginning of the scan with some peaks of up to 30

Not a very impressive result

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

Again no problems here at reading the disc

The errors in the other scan do not seem to have affected the readability of the disc

TEAC DV-W516G burnt at 8x Speed

Burn quality as tested in the BenQ drive

PI starting about 20 reducing at the first burn speed increase and remaining constant up to 3.5 gig where the errors increase up to a peak of 150 at the outer edge.

Jitter starts at just above 10% dropping to 10% at the first speed increase and again dropping at the second burn speed increase gradually rising to the outer edge. The jitter average is OK at 9.4%.

PIF errors are minimum

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

This scan shows a good graph up to 4 gig dropping off slightly after this point.

PLEXTOR PX-712SA burnt at 8x Speed

Burn quality as tested in the BenQ drive

The PI readings are so low here that the graphs scale remained at its lowest of 0-10. Jitter well under 10% averaging 8.1% with PIF again negligible

If only all graphs were as good as these

Speed test in the Toshiba drive

This scan shows a near perfect graph

Some good scans here with very low error readings, the three Liteon manufactured drives results are a little disappointing. This disc is comparable with its counterpart the FUJIFILM03 greys which has a proven track record. The discs burnt with the Liteon drives all give good speed read graphs without errors being as good as the graphs from the other drives. Playback is good with a variety of DVD players with smooth chapter skipping forward & reverse and smooth playback without freezing.

The printable surface measured 22mm x 118mm but is not always dead central so I set my Epson R300 to print 21mm X 119mm and when printed I wipe the surplus ink from the inner ring with a piece of toilet tissue The printed surface is a good vibrant resolution with the surface being smoother than some other printable surfaces resulting in good high resolution printing

CONCLUSION

The graphs produced by the majority of the drives are exceptional with the Plextor PX-712SA coming out tops here (I look forward to doing some tests with the PX-716 as soon as it is released). The Liteon drives were all consistently high PI errors but the speed graphs were all good and none of the burns produced any read errors and all the discs played back without problems in my range of DVD players.

I have burnt 2 tubs of 25 of these discs without a failure and will definitely be adding them to my list of preferred media.
