Pioneer DVR-111 vs DVR-110 Pioneer DVR-110 | Pioneer DVR-111D |
It seems like only yesterday since I received my Pioneer DVR-110 and now I have The Pioneer DVR-111D, It is rumoured that the DVR-111 was produced quickly because of serious burning problems with the DVR-110 and the DVR-111 is reputed to have superior burning quality. From the specifications I see there are only a few minor enhancements so I have decided to give these two drives head to head burn quality test to see if these rumours are true.
At the start of these tests I have the Pioneer DVR-111D which is identical to the DVR-111 with the absence of DVD-RAM writing capabilities but I hope to receive the DVR-111 before the final results are published so that I can include DVD-RAM burning in my comparison.
As the DVR-111 & DVR-111D are similar drives my tests will show the results as DVR-111 but will include results from the DVR-111D
The specifications have only 4 changes that I have noted - The 111D allows a reduced speed of 4x for CD-R burning
- DVD-RAM Access time is decreased from 250msec to 210msec
- The weight has been reduced from 1.0kg to 0.9kg
- The case has been redesigned to reduce vibration (note the dimples on the top)

Some are only marginally better but others are a great improvement in quality.
From these tests I can categorically say that the DVR-111 produces better quality burns than the DVR-110 and an upgrade is well worth it. | Added: Thursday, March 16, 2006 Reviewer: Flashhits: 38200
