Thanks to Nil & GRADIUS from the firmware forums it is now possible to apply RPC1 (region free) firmware and also allow 2x speed burning to RITEKG03 media.

I have tried both these hacks and am satisfied that they are working 100%. The 2x burns to the RITEK media are as good as previously burnt at 1x. See my results although the burn on some batches is a bit patchy it is the same when burnt at 1x on my A04.

Caution
Applying Hacked firmware can invalidate your warranty and although it has been extensively tested before the report was submitted we cannot be held responsible for any damage caused to your drive or system whilst flashing the firmware or afterwards.

When flashing the firmware (hacked or otherwise) there is always a slight risk of something going wrong and sometimes it will not flash for a number of reasons. Have a look at the discussions on Firmware forums. Only apply the hacked firmware if you understand the risk and are prepared to accept the consequences.
