I woke up this morning to find a parcel of discs with a note saying “we have changed the manufacturer of our Datawrite Red discs and rebranded them as 'version 3'. We hope this product will be the most stable entry level disc on the market." I decided to give them a quick test before I went on vacation and here are the results:
These discs have the same leadin code as some of the v2 but the burn quality is superior
I did a few sample burns with this media in my Pioneer 107 that has had the burn speed limit lifted so that I can burn any DVD-R media at up to 8x speed
Considering that this is a budget 4x speed disc the 8x speed burn quality is very good
Burnt at 4x, 6x and 8x speed with the Pioneer 107
The speed graphs are good with only a slight dips at the outer edge with all the 4x, 6x & 8x writes
KProbe is good with the 4x speed burn with the PI errors increasing towards the outer edge constant with the speed graphs
KProbe is good with the 6x speed burn with the PI errors increasing towards the outer edge constant with the speed graphs the PO errors are good except for the outer edge
KProbe with the 8x burn shows good during the initial 6x burn but increases considerably when the 8x burn commences
Playback of all the burns 4x, 6x & 8x is good with smooth chapter skipping and no sticking, playback compatibility is good with a variety of DVD players
Only had chance to do a few tests before my Vacation but so far I would rate these at least 8/10 and considering these are being introduced to the market at ½ the price of other discs which are rated as 8 out 10 these are an astonishingly good buy!!!
