Detectives think they've broken one of the biggest DVD counterfeiting rings in the country with the latest raid in the North East . Three people were arrested as they left a car boot sale at Seaham in County Durham at the weekend. They had five thousand pounds in cash on them. The police say more people will be arrested soon.
Poor copies of the latest films, including at least one that hasn't hit the cinemas yet. The police also found equipment for turning out dozens of copies at a time. It was a much bigger operation than they expected.
The three people arrested were part of a bigger team and other arrests will be following in that team but the significance of these arrests is masive in the North East of England. This team that were producing these counterefiet goods are responsible for hundreds of thousands of poundsworth of counterfeit goods going out onto the streets of the northeast.
This comes after the raid that netted all these discs and equipment, a couple of weeks ago. It's seems a bit surprising that the north east area is one of the worst affected parts of the country.
I think they've thought of us as a soft touch and the people of the North East don't see it on an individual basis as a serious offence but when you take into consideration what we've recovered on two recent jobs it's massive What surprised me was just what poor quality these copies are. What might surprise the people turning them out could be becoming the subject of the next police raid.
