Sony has released two new DVD recorders in Japan with an advanced search function. The RDR-HX100 and RDR-HX90 allow you to search for programmes using any search string (programme title or actor's name are obvious choices). They will then show you all programmes within a set time period related to your search term.

Recording the show is then a matter of saving the search results. The recorder will even adjust the recording time if the programme is delayed or overruns.
The RDR-HX100 is on sale in Japan for 110,000 yen (£545) and the RDR-HX90 for 80,000 yen (£396).
