Lite-On, one of the biggest makers of DVD drives, are now
the biggest after inking a deal with HP to make drives.
The agreement will mean that Lite-On will manufacture, qualify, market, support and distribute HP-branded optical drives. The Taiwanese firm suggest that suggest that its expertise and experience in the DVD channel, combined with HP's brand name and 'strict quality and branding standards' will make it a success.
The first drive to be shipped under the agreement will be a dual-format, dual layer 16x writer, which will be on the shelf by March.
Maybe HP is planning to use DVD writers to replace its large-capacity EVA units?
