With DVD-R now reaching an upper writing limit of 16x, manufacturers are having to rely on features other than writing speeds to bring new products to market. Datawrite recently had a coup with their
Titanium brand which, as well as having a highly compatible writing surface, boasts an ultra tough protective surface.
Datawrite may have their crown stolen from them by a new brand, which originates from the stables of CMC. The disc, aptly named
“tuffdisc”, has been reprinted with a tough pebbledash finish producing a media surface that is 40 times more scratch resistant and 20 times more dust resistant than standard DVD media.
The tuffdisc media, as well as being based on the highly compatible Mitsubishi dye, have the additional benefits of having the ability to withstand everyday - as well as rough! - handling and damage, for example when taking data off-site or when small children handle the discs.
Tuffdiscs offer highly affordable pricing when compared to premium branded media such as Datawrite, Datasafe , Ridisc TDK and Verbatim.
The official Launch date for Tuffdisc is the 10th of February 2005.
