TDK demonstrated a 100GB BD prototype in May 2005. The 100GB disc contains four data-storage layers, and the new 200GB version is expected to consist of four double-sided layers, which will yield four times the capacity of today's BDs.
The disk is expected to come to market next year, though it adds that 50GB BD-R and BD-RE discs are not yet shipping, with the current emphasis on single-layer, 25GB product.
TDK simply said it was in the process of developing such a part, and didn't even hint when the prototype might appear, let alone commercially available product.
