Traxdata has today anounced the launch of its HD DVD-R media, the eagerly awaited successor to the current DVD. This is the only HD DVD-R that is available to buy online and in-stores today, heralding the start of a new era in optical storage media.

Press Release: For the first time, consumers with HD DVD players/recorders will be able to record and watch their favourite movies, programmes or sporting events that are broadcast in HD, providing improved clarity, image sharpness, colours and sound, opening the door to an exciting new world of entertainment. The HD DVD provides three times the amount of digital storage than a standard single layer DVD, offering a massive 15GB to enable users to literally store hundreds of the highest quality photos, music, videos or data.

As the first brand to introduce HD DVD to the market, Traxdata has once again re-enforced its position as one of Europe’s leading choice of DVD* underlining its reliability and superior quality of digital storage products at reasonable prices.

Guido Liber, head of marketing at Traxdata, added: “We feel it is our responsibility to enable our customers to take advantage of the ever-improving hardware, quickly. Therefore our aim is not only to be innovative in our products, but also to provide users with what they want. We are pleased to be the first brand in the Europe to market this exciting new technology as we continue to build our presence across the region.

“Consumers and business users alike are continually demanding more storage capacity as we move towards a progressively digital age. Traxdata’s ability to meet this demand with its reliable and quality products such as the HD DVD, further underlines our commitment to innovation.”

In contrast to the current DVD that uses a red laser, the HD DVD uses a shorter blue-violet 405 nm laser to read information that reduces diffraction and increases accuracy of the laser. This allows data to be read from a higher density on the disc surface – this has led to the significant increase in data capacity.

Its HD DVD media received class-A verification for its 1x HD DVD-R SL (high-definition DVD-R single-sided single-layer) discs with 15GB storage capacity from the DVD Forum in May 2006. Class-A verification indicates that a product meets the minimum specifications laid out by the DVD Forum. Future product releases from Traxdata include HD DVD-RAM and HD DVD-RW that are due out towards the end of this year.
