LG is getting set to wind down its plasma screen panel production facility if the slump in demand for the long-in-the-tooth technology continues.
LG boss Lee Gyu-hong told Kyodo News that he could not see a future in continuing to try to reduce plasma manufacturing costs and that the company was likely to announce the end of production by the end of 2009.
The company is hoping to regain lost ground in the LCD market, which is seen as the future of big screen manufacturing because of lower costs and less environmental impact.
Pioneer announced earlier this month that it would end the production of plasma panels almost immediately.
