Disk 1 (size: 4.36GB) first test I a DVD movie (Ricky Gervais: Politics) I ripped hard drive DVD Decrypter. movie was already a DVD-r contents disc taken files I had put onto my hard drive. I burned Nero. setting speed 8x I went ahead burning. burning took 9mins 36secs. I then ran a speed test Nero CD-DVD Speed results shown below. graph shows odd hiccup 1x mark other it’s an almost perfect burn. I played disc firstly in my Sony DAV S400 then in my Playstation 2. S400 a great player isn’t too picky media. Most media can read laser provided it’s in right format. Suffice say didn’t any problems. Chapter skipping was very smooth searching was done minimum hassle player. Although PS2 very picky DVD media (especially where films/movies concerned) played back superbly. chapter skipping was good S400 there signs pixilation near end. Definitely sign a good disc. Disk 2 (size: 4.09GB) first test I another DVD movie had already backed up DVD-r so did need any sort modification. difference in test previous one burning done fly. time I Sonic RecordNow disc took 13mins 48secs copy 8x. Once again I scanned disc in Nero CD-DVD speed. graph once again shows a very good burn a little problem 3x. Once again I played disc in my PS2 Sony DAV S400. times movie was good chapter skipping searching time showed signs any pixilation. I did notice took slightly longer disc change menus something didn’t happen original source. Obviously disc was smaller in size compared one in first test so gives less accurate results compared testing outer sectors disc. Disk 3 (size: 4.36GB) third test I decided burn a game onto disc testing in my PS2. I chose copy game an image I had ripped hard drive. DVD Decrypter extract burn image I managed burn 4x (lower speed PS2 games recommended). I chose a speed graph in Nero. Playing my game in PS2 I there major problems. Mostly game played fine a cut scene there was a skip in fmv. Still nothing major I did notice once so could just a pure coincidence. Overall very good backing up games. EDIT: pjclark1 informs me reason my fmv may skipped due fact I may burned image too slowly. I up another burn game 8x. Hopefully we find out end whether was reason skip. anyone else can perhaps test theory out give a greater insight this. UPDATE: explained above I was recommended try burning game recommended media speed 8x rather slower (4x). putting theory test I tried game once again in my PS2. playing part had orginally skipped fmv my surprise I noticed time fmv played back smoothly. test validation pjclark1's theory against latest results I once again burned game 4x use in my PS2. time game did skip fmv either. may initial burn might had an unexplainable inconsistency. Incidentlly I played games 30 mins alternating save point. gave good loading times there was evidence skipping anywhere else. ________________________________________________________________________________ paul_nugent01 HARDWARE SETUP: Windows XP Home SP2 P4 2.0 RAM: 512Mb DDR HDD: 120Gb Pioneer 104 F/W 1.40 - internal Pioneer 108 F/W 1.14 - external USB DVD Player: Philips DVR80 Pioneer 108 Disk 1) File size = 4.11Gb. Devices always spin rate called CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) drives. Devices maintain a fixed linear velocity called CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) drives. Devices switch CAV CLV when maximum speed reached called PCAV (Partial Constant Angular Velocity) drives. Most recent high-speed CD-ROM drives PCAV. Devices CLV use different speeds different parts ("zones") disc called ZCLV. Most CD recorders use CLV writing (e.g. 20x higher) use PCAV ZCLV.

Active OPC monitors writing power reflection media in use calculating optimum laser power adjusting in real-time. should in theory result in better quality burning.

» CMCMAG AM3 16X Speed DVD-R

Link: I fortunate receive pre production samples latest CMC 16X speed DVD-R media being sceptical I decided put paces I am so surprised quality results I cannot wait production start before I publish my results
I understand Datawrite marketed under brand Titanium 16X DVD-R results comparable better 8x speed counterpart discs leadin mid code

I was only able burn DVD-R media iat 16X speed in 3 my drives other drives limited 8X speed DVD-R media.
Here my resultant test graphs
PIONEER DVR-108 V1.14 burnt 16X speed

A burn quality test in my BenQ drive

PI starting below 10 peaking a maximum just over 20 sharp peaks a good scan one

Jitter % starting well below 10% remaining so most scan an average 8.7 very good

PIF although low a little disappointing peaking a mere 13 a minor cluster in higher speed area

The time taken complete burn was 7m15sec

Speed test in Toshiba drive

This scan shows an almost perfect graph again can I say

NEC ND-3500AG burnt 16X speed

Burn quality tested in BenQ drive

PI again stating 10 rising just over 20 end scan without any excessive peaks. graph very similar Pioneer scan marginally higher A good scan

Jitter averages below 10% does show an amount fluctuation still well acceptable limits

PIF also comparable Pioneer marginally higher a peak 25 causing rescaling up to40 max

The time taken complete burn was 6m40sec

Speed test in Toshiba drive

Some minor blips in read speed speed does drop bellow 8 there only a few minimal problems outer edge. I cannot see causing any problems

BENQ DW-1620 burnt 16x Speed

Burn quality tested in BenQ drive

PI starting just under 40 dropping down 10 then a slight rise 20 end scan. best graph I obtained recent CMCMAG media drive although highest three still a very good result

Jitter remains constant just below 10% averaging below 10%

Although there a lot PIF errors well below 10 should affect playback readability

The time taken complete burn was 7m28sec

Speed test in Toshiba drive

As good gets

I only had a few pre production samples trial production good then another great disc add my collection. I cannot wait Datawrite start marketing under Titanium 16x brand. I understand towards end January
burning times actual times complete burn a complete title total time taken burn including leadin lead out recorded in log Record Now Max title was burns time taken indicates maximum burning speed was only reached towards end burn. A 4x speed burn takes 15 minutes can see results a 16X speed burn takes just halve long because burning speed increases in stages around 4x speed only reaching 16X speed very last part burn process impossible burn maximum speed commencement burn because high rotational speed required there a possibility disc shattering a high speed.
