» Media Quality & Value Money Spreadsheet

Testing different media only half process in deciding overall quality Calculating value money a long drawn out process analysing scans always easy provide an exact comparison different brands.
I decided design a spreadsheet calculations me give an ideal comparison brands. I now a working sheet covers up 12 different DVD burners. there fixed standard media quality I my experience decide appropriate figures quality score worked out algorithms arrive results.
was basic calculator I designed

By entering results DVDInfoPro I am able get a quality score figures calculate overall quality then based current market prices cost particular media value money calculated click calculator a full spreadsheet's results show can download a Working Demo. calculations a little different final spreadsheet gives an idea how works
A major on-line retailer evaluating my spreadsheet currently media test results. chief Support Technician Danny said "Easy use very true results output end". 8/10 so impressed asked calculations could incorporated DVDInfoPro? So Nic Wilson & myself worked together my algorithms we incorporated calculations giving a quality rating scans produced.
I intend publish full spreadsheet & add tests individual media making available see a glance I consider best value money media.

RiDisc Xtreme
Overview
I just received samples discs mid appear identical quality so I a combined review
These discs produced one top manufacturers CMC only top grade dye formula. Looking burn side discs I can see quality I expected.
Currently Dual Layer media in it's infancy moment [Oct 20] D/L Burners Media only market 12 months. So sure go drive manufacturers website download latest firmware take advantage new format.
Under Microscope
The drives we in test most common ones most using.
If sure drive try buy a sample disc pack one online retailers ask local shop can sell individually just sure. Currently DVD+R media readily available DVD+R D/L burners burn video DVD-ROM book format enable better player compatibility fixed in drives firmware cannot changed.
DVD-R very slow hit streets I fortunate receive only a few beta test samples never got production.
A recording drives Nero C D/DVD Speed ISO burn mode then tested DVDInfoPro testing software.

Conclusion
Dual Layer recording difficult achieve perfection any media I cannot always guaranteed 100% successful player compatibility good especially any players over 12 months old. discs I did burn successfully played in my latest DVD Players a slight pause layer changeover point graphs produced can seen there differences layers. disc image I burnt 8030megs just over 100megs under maximum size 8152meg a Dual Layer disc. I recommend trying burn any data onto disc render layer switch too near outer edge could easily fail burn past point produce read errors in burn. Personally I give disc leeway limit file size 500megs below maximum.
burning speed media 2.4x taking 45mins burn a full disc somewhat slow today's standards when drives burn D/L media up 8x speed a price premium. Plextor PX716A was able burn 4x speed I was unable read past layer change (the results can seen clicking drive image in popup window) So discs unsuitable Overclocking burning speed.
Although error rate a lot higher I come expect DVD media most burns acceptable limits played OK my test DVD player there was stuttering & jumping around layer change area discs. plan use Dual Layer recording sure player capable reading Dual Layer media I definitely advise ask supplier a few samples first. around £2.00 per disc 10x cost a single layer disc going reliable. £2.00 per disc bad value money when can find others over double amount. when DVD-R media first hit streets £2.00 was entry level price. I cannot envisage price dropping much lower in foreseeable future.

Conclusion
The burn quality medias good Datasafe media excelling in areas over Datawrite Optima Blue only let down NEC drive's incompatibility media (I keeping an eye out firmware upgrades retesting)
The Optima Blue let down burn quality only 78% PI errors showing a quality score a mere 61%. seams trend most current Ritek media according various comments in forums around world. I feel Ritek pull finger out sort out Q.C. we may a repeat REVIEW I reported 18 months ago. Up until time I had always held Ritek very high my list now starting slide down again.
Saying media still good could a lot better a manufacturer Ritek
The Datasafe ratings above 90% can only described Superb.
I hesitate recommend disc Datasafe a winner in burn quality & value money.
